From the National Cycle Network routes, to single track woodland trails, to easier canal side paths, there are cycle routes to suit all abilities within the Falkirk area.

Whether you’re an experienced mountain biker, or a family looking for an easy day out cycling, there are a whole host of cycle routes to suit everyone in the Falkirk area. You will be spolit for choice !

Callendar Estate Heritage and Mountain Bike Trails
Travel back to January 1746 and follow the Battle of Falkirk Trail through the heart of the battlefield. Or hire a bike and have a go on the family friendly mountain bike trails. You could even try a guided Segway tour on our Local History Trail. There is so much to do.

The John Muir Way
The John Muir Way cycling route provides a pleasant cycle through the countryside, not – like many traditional cycle routes – an efficient way from A to B on a bike. Cycling the John Muir Way will usually take about 4 or 5 days, again depending on your temptation to visit the many magnifecent sites you will find en route. In the Falkirk area the John Muir way passes key attractions such as Blackness Castle, Boness & Kinneil Railway, The Antonine Wall, Callendar House and Park as well as the Falkirk Wheel. This is a route, with varying surfaces and gradients on some stretches of roads.

Canal Path Network
Both the Forth & Clyde and the Union canal offer safe, traffic free, pollution free routes for cyclists of all levels. The Forth and Clyde Canal offers 35 miles of beautiful countryside cycling. This is connected to the Union canal at the Falkirk Wheel, taking you straight into the city of Edinburgh. You will find the eerie Falkirk Tunnel on the Union Canal, 630 meters long, 18ft-wide, 19ft-high and has a 5ft-wide towpath. Did you know that the infamous Burke and Hare relocated from Ireland to Scotland to help build the tunnel and may have contributed to the atmosphere you will feel when you cycle through it.
